In 2010, the Baraka Women’s Center was started as a way to teach the women from the Kibera Slum in Nairobi, Kenya sewing skills so that they can sustain themselves and their families. To date, the women are sewing tote bags, aprons, quilts, and more! They have a sewing center on the property of First Love Kenya and work diligently to fill orders. In May of 2014, we started a training program for new students in which the graduates of the first class are now the trainers.
We realized that we needed to help these women learn skills so they could feed and house their families. Today, they are sewing, creating greeting cards and making cooking baskets. First Love International has built a gift shop and Center for the ladies to make and sell their products.
