Baraka Women’s Center (BWC) opened in October 2012 and was named by the members “Baraka” a Swahili word that means “blessings”
More than 1,200 women, ages 16–69, have registered as members since 2012.
Our History
Baraka Women’s Center (BWC) is a notable women-led organization with a profound commitment to empowering disadvantaged and vulnerable women by equipping them with the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to transform their economic and social conditions favorably. Baraka Women’s Center (BWC) was first established in October 2012 under the sponsorship of Women’s Centers International, a U.S.-based NGO registered in Kenya.
A vibrant community of women has grown and become empowered at the center. Members have achieved tremendous success over a decade of focused community work. The continuing influx of women seeking to enroll in our programs means the Center has outgrown its current location. The vision for a new location includes office and classroom space as well as shops for member businesses.
Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe place for disadvantaged women to access the training, mentoring and support they need to create prosperous lives for themselves and their families. It is a place dedicated to solving common problems and building strength in unity.
